Panama City – It all started over a driving dispute. She ended with rifles and the death of a 48-year-old woman on her birthday.
Panama Police Department in Panama offered more details about the deadly rage on Saturday during a news briefing on Monday afternoon.
Here’s what we know:
How did it start
Police claim that Jubal Simmons, 23, was in the Dodge Ram passenger seat, driven by Ivybella Encino, 21. The couple was sitting behind a car in the US 231 and Harrison Avenue.
Captain Chris Nicole, captain of the PCPDS investigative services section, said Enchino and Simmons were upset by driving the red GMC terrain in front of them, which had four inhabitants.
He said Enchino was “rage” with the driver, George Garner, 48, and others in his vehicle.
What started as a verbal dispute escalates into a physical fight between ENCHino and Marily Lewis, 19, Garner’s daughter. Nicole said that a resident of Garner’s vehicle went to the other vehicle and hit Enchino. He said it was a short dispute, not a comprehensive battle.
Fireds fired
When the light became green, everyone returned to their cars. Enchino drove the truck on the side of Garner’s vehicle, police said. This is when Simmons showed his gun and told the victims that he would kill them, saying that “I don’t care about doing 100 years,” according to a police report.
Police said Simmons had fired 11 cartridges to Garner’s vehicle, hitting both Garner and Lewis in the chest. The other two residents of the vehicle were unharmed. A non -included vehicle nearby is also struck.
At 16:17 on Saturday, PCPD began to receive 911 calls in connection with the shooting. An employee nearby heard the shooting and pursued ENCHino and Simmons, who accelerated north in the United States 231.
Nearby units with the sheriff of Bay, PCPD and Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
When they arrived, the good Samaritans provided care for Garner and Lewis, who suffered from firearms. Employees have taken on assistance while emergency medical services cannot take them to hospital.
Garner was declared dead shortly after his arrival at the hospital. Her daughter was still in critical condition on Monday, according to a PCPD message.
Pursuit
Nicole said Entero and Simmons continue to run from several marked units, driving recklessly through several parking lots and at the Holiday Inn Off State Road 77 property. A police report notes that there were several guests in the parking lot at that time.
According to an arrest report, Simmons dumped the firearm from the truck while driving through the parking lot.
The PCPD said the units were trying to block ENCHino’s truck to prevent more injuries, but ENCHino struck the patrol car by disabling both vehicles.
Enchino was removed without incidents, but Simmons escaped on foot, police said. The officers caught him a short distance.
Where were the suspects from?
When asked about the duet’s stay, investigators said Enchino was referred to as transitional and Simmons was originally from the North Carolina area. Officials said Enchino and Simmons did not know the residents of Garner’s vehicle before the shooting.
Simmons was accused of murder, three accusations of attempted murder, two charges of shooting in an occupied vehicle, throwing a firearm from a vehicle, forged evidence and resistance to employees without violence.
Encino was charged with a murder accessory, an aggravated law enforcement officer battery, an aggravated escape/avoidance of law enforcement and driving while the certificate was suspended/canceled.
Officials confirmed that this was Garner’s birthday during the incident.
