Lansing, Mich. (AP) – Michigan Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer makes a direct appeal to young men, who sharply shifted to the right of the latest elections to a speech on Wednesday, in which she continued to call on every big party to work through the path.
Whitmer gave his speech just days after sitting next to President Donald Trump for dinner in the White House and repeated his hope of finding a common position with him. As a potential presidential candidate in 2028 with a national profile built on the intercession for women’s rights, Whitmer stressed that her message is directed “to all young people, but especially to our young men.”
“The last thing each of us wants is a generation of young men who fall behind their fathers and grandparents,” Whitmer said.

Young men turned sharply for Trump at the November elections. He has acquired a bigger share of black and Latin -Americans voters than in 2020, most of all men under 45, according to AP Votecast, a national survey of more than 120,000 voters. Many respondents cited Trump’s approach to the economy and the ability to work.
Whitmer nodded in areas where women have outstripped men in recent years, including educational achievements and buying a home. She said twice as many women enroll in a state program for the Community without training than men.
Republican house chairman Matt Hall said after Witmer’s speech that he was trying to understand “what is the right message to try to bring the men back to the Democratic Party.”
“Rhetoric is great, but the recording must match it,” Hall said.
Whitmer has promised to sign an enforcement order to enhance young men’s enrollment in education and skills training programs.
One of the 12 women’s governors and perhaps the most famous, Whitmer has built a national profile in the fight for women’s rights. It helped to vote in 2022, which codifies reproductive rights in the country and was one of the leading defenders of abortion rights at the beginning of the 2024 presidential election.
“And for the women there, who manage to arrange the deck after decades, I see your resilience and will never abandon my commitment to equal opportunities and dignity to all,” she said.
The address was the second to the last state of the governor’s state speech due to the limits of the term. The speech serves as an annual platform for the governor to promote policy.
In his last two years, as governor Whitmer, he has been confronted with a separate legislative body after the Republicans have transferred the State House to Representatives. She consistently says she wants to work with Trump and Republicans in Michigan and signed a two -sided package to change the requirements for a minimum wage in the state last week.
Whitmer struck a similar tone on Wednesday.
“My northern star has always been a cooperation,” she said.
But not all Democrats in the country have agreed to this approach.
“I am concerned to normalize what we are seeing in the Presidency at the moment,” said Michigan General Dana Nesel of the Associated Press, criticizing the tone whitmer he took with the president.
Nesl is one of a number of general democratic lawyers who hit the Trump administration and the Muska Dog of a court case, according to non -constitutional actions on a number of fronts. She called him a “stupid order” to negotiate with the president.
Michigan’s Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Democrat, was free for the governor’s joint message, but wants Whitmer and other governors to deal with certain Trump moves.
“There are also many people who feel worried and afraid of who they love, how they look or where they are,” she said. “So we have to talk about Michigan’s power to be born so as not to keep everyone and all the protected.”
In his speech on Wednesday, Whitmer encourages the legislation to limit the use of mobile phones in schools and tax products. Republicans have signaled their support for legislation that restricts the use of mobile phones in schools while not approving Whitmer’s tax taxation plan.
