Tonight, the Liberal Party will announce its next leader and the person who will soon become the Prime Minister -a work that will inherit against the backdrop of economic turbulence and the deeply wounded relations with the once -the -closest ally in the country.
The election of the party – who will become the Prime Minister only after he has been sworn in from the Governor General – not only is a new chapter for the liberals, but can also mean the upcoming start of the federal elections.
CBC News will bring a special coverage of the historic event, beginning at 16:00 ET.
Those who are fighting for the job are former central banker Mark Carney, former Minister of Finance and current MP Christy Freeland, former chamber leader and current MP Karina Gould and Business Leader in Montreal and former MP Frank Bailis.
The relatively short leadership competition was triggered when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in early January his intention to withdraw after the Installation Rebellion of the cause and the resignation of Freeland from the cabinet.
At that time, the party was in a deep election, the conservatives of Pierre Polyver stopped with more than 20 points. Recent studies suggest that the liberals are bouncing back. Whoever wins will be under pressure to maintain this inertia.

The campaign saw candidates move away from the Trudo era as a carbon carbon tax and the changes in capital profits tax, while placing their own spin on how to deal with the housing crisis and make life more accessible to Canadians.
But internal problems are overshadowed by the existential threat that US President Donald Trump represents. The competition was largely about who would be best to deal with the fall of his rates and threats.
After nearly two months of campaign and two debates, this solution is already in the hands of thousands of registered liberals. Eligible voters have been able to submit their ballots for more than a week and have by 15:00 ET to receive their votes.
How will the party collect the voices?
Although a lot is said about how Carney-which has accumulated the most support of the kakus, with the most money and is the main goal of the Conservatives-the front athlete, tonight the efforts of the votes will play a role.
Liberals use a rated newsletter and point point to determine the winner. Each riding (now there are 343 after changes in borders) costs 100 points, which means that 34 300 points are ready for picking up. Applicants are appointed points depending on what percentage of voting they receive at each ride.
The leader must win the bigger part of the total points. The magic number is 17,151.

Party members can choose up to four people as a leader, ranking their preferences from the first to the last.
If no candidate reaches the threshold of 17 151 in the first round, the person with the shortest points is eliminated and the ballots are again counted. If so, the points will be re -appointed based on the second selection of members.
This process will continue until a winner appears.
One of the first questions about Victor will be whether they plan to immediately activate elections or wait until parliament returns on March 24th.
The event on Sunday is held in Ottawa and Trudeau, and former Prime Minister Jean Cretien is planned to talk to the crowd.
Just a few days ago, Trudeau said he was expecting the transition to his heir to happen “in the coming days or a week.”
The Liberal Party limited vote to Canadians and permanent residents, citing concerns about foreign intervention.
In order to vote in this race, the registered liberals had to receive an electronic voter identification number and then check this identifier online. They then had to confirm their status as an eligible voter. They then had to confirm their identity using the Canada Post Identity+ app or personally at a participating post office.
This system is struck by irritants, with members complaining that they have not been able to get the process to work, especially when it comes to a mobile application and a personal option to check their identity.
The party said the liberal leadership system was “the most secure and affordable vote in Canadian history.”
